History of GORE-TEX® 

The GORE-TEX® brand began in 1959 when Bill and Vieve Gore launch W. L. Gore & Associates. It wasn't until 1969 where ePTFE, or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene was created by their son Bob Gore when he rapidly stretched PTFE under certain conditions. The result was an incredibly strong, microporous material with an amazing list of characteristics including low water adsorption and good weathering properties. 

In 1976, GORE-TEX® got its first major break as a brand with its first commercial order for GORE-TEX® fabric the first breathable, waterproof, and windproof fabric. Since then, the brand has kept growing.. testing and refining their fabric as well as producing a wider range of products like tape and gloves. In 1981, NASA's first space shuttle mission, shuttle Columbia, carried astronauts wearing spacesuits made with GORE-TEX® fabric. It wasn't until then when they realised how powerful their creation actually was.

Since that point, GORE-TEX® has continued to expand becoming commercialised in a vast range of clothing. In 2010, the brand commercialised its GORE-TEX® Active products and GORE-TEX® SURROUND™ Footwear. And today, that same brand, fabric and idealogy is still being grown, analysed and used across the globe being chosen by hundreds of the worlds most trusted brands. 

GORE-TEX® Quality Assurance 

It is one thing for a company to guarantee what it makes. It is quite another for it to guarantee what others make. But that is exactly what GORE-TEX® do. Working hand-in-hand with their licensed manufacturing customers, they assess each product style. And it’s not just the finished GORE-TEX® product that’s tested but the textiles, insulations, membrane and linings must meet performance standards. Materials are tested in Gore’s labs and prototypes are rigorously field tested in actual conditions. 

GORE-TEX® products are stressfully tested to make sure they maintain the highest standard possible from material tests to system tests, performance tests with actual testers, field tests in actual field conditions. To ensure the brands promise the products are rigorously and intensely tested mechanically and put to the ultimate test by use in reality.
